CHILE AWOKE
Since October
18, nothing could be the same as before, the normality and peace that is
already called no longer exists, the situation has helped Chileans to open
their eyes and empathize with others, although nothing has been gained, the
situation has served to make visible problems and injustices of our country.
And the
experience after this awakening of the people has not been the same for
everyone, some were injured and mutilated by state agents, others experienced
human rights violations, many were sexually abused and some were forced to
remember the horrors of the past and others who can never return to their
homes, because this is how the Chilean state works, they try to destroy people.
On the other
hand, my experience was not so traumatic, but seeing others go through painful
or extremely unfair situations filled me with anger and pain, fears for my life
and that of my family. At first I actively attended the marches, but as time
went by my family asked me to stop going, they were worried. I accepted this
situation and relegated myself to look for other forms of participation, so I
began to write, draw and keep myself informed, I realized that the situation
had really affected me.
After working
for a while on my mental health, I resumed some activities, such as attending
community assemblies, discussing the issue in all possible places and making my
position known, I also attended a basic first aid course to learn some new
things and So far I continue to participate in my own way.
Finally, I think
that the outlook for Chile will be devastating for a while, but this should not
mean that the fight is over, the first step has been taken and this will not
end here, although it is clear that it is a long-term process that will bear fruits.
(I hope), social demands are happening now; the government must listen to
people and work on their requests.
Chile woke up
and I hope she never goes back to sleep.
